About Fimcap: History:

A journey into timeThe venue will take place in Buren, a small fortified city with a rich history. From its city walls with the canons still in place, you have a wonderful view over the surrounding countryside, with its fields, farmhouses and cattle. In the monumental city centre you will find many old buildings from a long time ago. Travel back in time and visit a city whose city plan dates form 1500, the city hall from 1554 and an orphanage from 1612. Trace the steps of the founding father of our country, William of Orange. When Emperor Charles V visited Buren in 1548 Maximilian of Buren asked permission to wed his heir and only daughter, Anne of Buren to William of Orange. Later William would lead the insurrection of the Dutch provinces against Philips II of Spain, which would eventually result in the foundation of the Netherlands. One of the descendents from this marriage is Her royal highness Beatrix, Queen of the Netherlands, Countess of Buren. The castle of Buren no longer exists, but the local group of Jong Nederland Buren build its clubhouse on its remains. Within minutes from the clubhouse, where most activities will take place, you can walk to the city centre. We will sleep in tents on a small camping site close to the city. The camping site is situated in the middle of the green and lush countryside around Buren by a farmhouse. Wake up in the morning and enjoy the view of cattle grazing in the fields around you and the small stream of a river alongside the camping site. Modern timesEuroForum 2003 is not only a journey back into historic times, taking place in a setting where time seems to have stopped already ages ago. EuroForum 2003 has firm roots in our own time. You will have the possibility to meet people and learn from other cultures in an ever changing and sometimes frightening world. Intercultural exchange is getting more and more important these days where many people seem to resurrect more and more walls to protect themselves from enemies that only reside within themselves. Every volunteer within the many organisations that form Fimcap spends precious time to organise activities for young children and youngsters. They all encounter similar difficulties in doing this work. EuroForum is the perfect opportunity to learn from volunteers from many different countries how they dealt with these problems. You will also be able to learn many new ideas for new activities you can organise for your own group. Time for the programmeThe programme of EuroForum 2003 is not fixed yet. More information about the programme will be available at the EuroConference in Austria in November 2002. But some of the outlines of the programme are already clear. All participants are asked to make a choice before they come to the EuroForum between the different programme parts. Part of the EuroForum you will spend in a working group, dealing with the theme you chose. There will several different themes to choose from so, for any volunteer within any organisation there will be an interesting programme. Which are the different themes you can choose from? These are: games and sports, outdoor life, creativity and thematical trainings and discussions. The language level used during the different activities will be indicated in the programme. This way you can also participate in the EuroForum when your language skills are not very high. Participants from all levels of your organisation can participate. Volunteers that are new in your organisation can find new ideas for games and plays, board members can discuss difficulties they encounter in their level of the organisation and exchange ideas on how to solve them.
