European Chaplains Meeting Fimcap 2005

Hi dear National Chaplains

Peace and love in our Lord, Jesus Christ

From three last Fimcap General Assemblies in 1999 and 2001 and also in 2004, the presidents or delegates of the all fimcap members organizations who were present asked to the intercontinental presidium to take special care of the national chaplains: like having meetings, in which we can discus about youth, find some solutions, have new ideas to work with them and keep in mind the role of the national chaplain (sharing the work we do in our chaplaincy).

In our previous meetings we've developed the program as it was planning. The central theme was "youth in today". And we also shared our views about what it means for all of the participants to be a national chaplain in an organization like we come from; but especially we shared our successes and our difficulties in our organizations and in our daily work.

The participants valued these summits very positively because it was important for the national chaplains to meet and look around, to share with others who do the same in different countries... and see the light in the way, to share their wishes, hopes in the pastoral work with the youth work in today reality, the life in the organizations on a national or international level and with the young people or leaders themselves.

Thus in Fimcap we will organize the European Chaplains Meeting from 14th to 17th November 2005 In Belesov (Slovakia).

We think that this meeting is very important for the local churches, for the Fimcap member organizations but principally for the priest or for those who are national ecclesiastical assistants over there to encourage them to follow up in their youth ministry.

Concrete Information

Date and venue of the meeting

The meeting will take place in Belesov, 100 kilometers from Bratislava, but we will meet in Bratislava on the 14th at 12.00 hours at Erko National Office (Hnutie kresťanských spoločenstiev detí, Pražská 11, 811 04 Bratislava 1, Tel.-fax: 02 / 57 297 294, Email: erko@erko.sk, www.erko.sk) and from there we will go to have lunch together and after that we will go to Belesov.

ERKO is a Fimcap member organization which is going to take care of the technical things, secretariat, locations, hosting of the meeting...

Participants

We invite you all, the national chaplains from the European Fimcap Organizations.

We will also invite the chaplains from Latin America (Chile, Paraguay, Ecuador, Haiti) and from Asia (Philippines, Sri-lanka and Taiwan) and if we find enough money to pay the travel cost for the contact organizations from El Salvador, Colombia and Nepal they will be invited too. Then we want to ask you to help us to fundraise for the travel cost of these people because they can't afford to pay their travel cost from their own country to Slovakia by themselves.

"The evangelization of youth is seen now as a question of life or death for the church." We also know there are a lot of national chaplains who are working with youth, everywhere, and sometimes we ask ourselves what could be the key to motivate and involve today a lot of youth? And some times we feel that we are loosing touch and time, and also feeling an immense tiredness, not only personal, but as national chaplains or leader of the leaders.

Our program during this week will be based specifically on sharing our experiences as national chaplains. Think of the challenges we face everyday in our organizations as national chaplains. Sometimes we need to meet and share our successes and our failures, to look around our country and the whole world, to motivate, to learn and to put to use, and to pray together; we will try to live this meeting as a time of grace and a time of mission.

We will have some technical sessions in which we will try to give some methodology as how to work today's Bible with youth groups.

Some moments to share: To be a chaplain, start with the values, follow up with the mission.

The Bible sections: How to enlighten the youth reality in our organization and in my work from the Bible?

We will have some moments to be in contact with the reality of Slovakia and ErKo (culture, folklore, landscape...)
